As part of Swindon Council’s 2009 Budget proposals the Old Town Library is facing closure despite a massive protest by residents and a petition of over 1330 signatures. The much loved community library will be closed to save just over £20,000. The Friends of the Old Town Library have launched a campaign to save the library and have succeeded in making the Council enter into a period of consultation.
The Council has arranged two consultation “Drop-in” secessions at the library in Victoria road on Tuesday 7th April and Friday 17th April from 3pm to 7pm. The Friends of Old Town Library have arranged a public meeting on 27th April at 3pm at the Arts Centre with Tim Coates the former managing director of Waterstone’s bookshops and a champion of the public libraries service.
