Aldi Plan Second Swindon Store

Aldi Stores have got plans to build another supermarket on the former Skurray premises in Drove Road.

The company is to hold an informal public consultation event to canvas views on the proposal to build what will be their second neighbourhood foodstore in the area.

The exhibition will be held next Monday (20th April) between 3pm and 8pm at the Drove Children’s Centre next to the proposed development site.

Representatives from Aldi Stores and their planning consultants Turley Associates will be on hand to explain the development proposals to interested members of the public.

Aldi propose to demolish the existing buildings upon the 1.13 acre site and erect a new 1583 sq m (gross) food store, along with 79 car parking spaces and new landscaping.

The store will feature a new contemporary energy efficient design befitting of this high profile site close to the Magic Roundabout. A similar store has recently been completed in Hounslow, London as pictured.

Aldi are one of the world’s leading grocery retailers. They currently have 410 stores within the UK and focus on providing quality products at affordable prices.

Swindon is already home to Aldi’s regional distribution centre and head office at South Marston Park where it has recently invested in a £35 million extension to create a state of the art facility in excess of 560,000 sq ft.

Aldi have one existing store at Hobley Drive in Stratton St Margaret, but have an aspiration to achieve a network of between five to seven neighbourhood food stores in their hometown.
