I, like many councillors, have spent recent times protesting as developers have taken up
the green spaces around our town. There being no better examples than the proposed terrible
developments on the Front Garden (land between Old Town and the M4) and the land adjacent
Coate Water.
However, a recent phenomenon creeping upon us is the creation of apartments
on any available piece of urban land or old established businesses. In Old Town we have
proposals to get rid of the historic Evening Advertiser offices and Print rooms and their
replacement by 68 apartments. This will not only change the character of the area but
have a major effect on both parking and traffic. It also follows applications for 18
homes in Cricklade street and 18 apartments in Victoria road. Apartment overload or what?!
The Vice Chair of the Community Council has sent the following letter of objection
